The European Court on Human Rights announced its decision on Azerbaijan.
According to the court's decision issued in the case of Mahira Muradova, the Azerbaijani government must pay a fine of 25,000 euro.
Muradova is an Azerbaijani citizen.
Muradova was subject to police violence during the opposition protests against the October presidential elections on March 16, 2003. She filed a lawsuit on violations of the Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms article on torture, fair investigation and favorable legal protection.
The European Court has issued 16 decisions on Azerbaijan thus far.
Azerbaijan was admitted to the Council of Europe in 2001.
