ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, January 30. A webinar
on "Tax Regulation and World Trade Organization Rules: Practical
Recommendations for Minimizing Risks" took place in Turkmenistan,
Trend reports.
The event was organized by the UN Development Program (UNDP) in
Turkmenistan as part of a joint project with the Ministry of
Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, titled "Platform for the
Implementation of SDGs, Phase III".
Participants in the seminar included representatives from the
Government of Turkmenistan, including the Mejlis, the Ministry of
Finance and Economy, the Tax Administration of the Ministry of
Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of
Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations,
the State Customs Service, the Central Bank, and the Union of
Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The webinar participants dove into the nitty-gritty of key WTO tax
disputes and took a hard look at the extra tax obligations that
come with the territory for new WTO members.
Participants also took a deep dive into ways to sidestep the
pitfalls of breaching WTO rules while crafting tax legislation and
putting these rules into practice in tax administration.
During the meeting, a strategy for maintaining and strengthening
national sovereignty in taxation was recommended in the context of
Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization.
