ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 13. Brazilian WEG is considering expanding its operations in Kazakhstan by implementing a plan to build a plant for the production of electrical equipment, Trend reports via Kazakh Invest.
WEG's regional director for Central Asia, Sergey Muschenko saidduring a meeting with Alibek Kuantyrov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Madiyar Sultanbek, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC KAZAKH INVEST."
In the course of the meeting, Mushchenko mentioned that in 2023,
WEG opened a service hub in Almaty, which has become a regional
center for supporting industrial enterprises in the fields of
digital manufacturing and energy efficiency. The company invested
over $1 million in the project and created 50 jobs.
Meanwhile, in September 2024, a specialized WEG laboratory was
opened at Satbayev University in Almaty. The lab provides students
from the mechanical engineering and energy faculties with practical
training on modern equipment. In the future, WEG plans to build a
plant for the production of electrical equipment, including gear
motors. The total investment for this project will reach $32
million, creating 120 new jobs.
In his turn, Kuantyrov noted that Kazakhstan is interested in developing strategic partnerships with leading global companies like WEG. He emphasized that localizing production and transferring advanced technologies play a crucial role in the country’s industrial development and improving the competitiveness of the Kazakh economy.
The parties discussed the key conditions and possible mechanisms for state support of the project, including investor support measures, assistance in finding local partners, and workforce training.
Furthermore, WEG representatives expressed interest in expanding their distributor network and increasing warehouse capacity in Kazakhstan. As part of its long-term development strategy, the company plans to allocate $2.5 million for additional logistics facilities and enter the markets of neighboring countries - Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan.
The sides also agreed to continue dialogue on technological cooperation, experience exchange in production digitalization, and improve the energy efficiency of Kazakhstan’s industrial enterprises.
