Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 February / corr Trend I.Khalilova / The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, which will last till 5 March, has launched estimation of the potential in Azerbaijan's tax system and tax revenues forecasting system.
Gaham Harrison, a senior economist and head of the IMF mission, said in a meeting at the Taxes Ministry that over two weeks it is planned to analyze work over tax administering and IMF experts intend to get familiar with the work of local organizations for closer familiarity with the activities of the tax service.
Natik Aliyev, the deputy tax minister, appraised IMF's proposals and stressed their readiness for comprehensive analysis. IMF experts have taken an active part in reforming tax system over the past 7-8 years and their recommendations were taken into consideration. As a result of the reforms, contacts with all units of the Ministry are carried out through the automated tax information system. Since 2007, the electron declaration has been applied in the country and over a short period the major part of taxpayers, including 90% of VAT payers, present declaration in electronic form.
The deputy minister also spoke about the possibility of optimizing the tax rates in the country and development of the State program on adjusting tax legislation to the European Union (EU) norms in 2009-2012.
"The IMF mission will enable to improve the draft program and successfully realize it," Amirov said.
