In 2008, sunflower harvest in Moldova exceeded the planned level by 40%. The croppage of the oilseed totaled 430.000 tonnes, an increase of 120.000 tonnes compared to the forecasted level, declared the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
The country is able to produce over 130.000 tonnes of vegetable oil from the harvested crop. The domestic consumption of Moldavian market totals nearly 50.000 tonnes, and this season the country has the real potential to export the part of the crop and the surpluses of vegetable oil, according to the specialists of the Ministry.
The rich harvest of 2008 will completely support the food security of the country. The country harvested 1.4 mln tonnes of wheat, over 1.5 mln tonnes of maize, nearly 980.000 tonnes of sugar-beet, over 700.000 tonnes of soybean, reported Agrimarket.
