Azerbaijan's population has increased due to the number of migrants in the country, State Committee for Statistics Chairman Arif Valiyev said.
"Until now the population has increased naturally. But the number of migrants exceeded the number of those who left the country in 2008," Valiyev said.
As for early 2009, the population increased 1.2 percent and composed 8.73 million people.
A total of 152,000 people were born in 2008; 99,600 survived.
At present, there are 1,027 women for every 1,000 men in Azerbaijan.
