Uzbekistan Railways will invest $20 million in creation of a modern logistics center in Tashkent on the basis of the Chukursai railway sorting station, the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel reported.
The technical equipment of the logistics center will be provided by manufacturers from Germany, Russia and China. The area of the center will be 19.4 hectares, the expected capacity – 1.5 million tons of export and import goods per year.
“Today, 125 containers are processed per day. This figure will grow to 250 after commissioning of the logistics center. In addition, the capacity for storage of containers will double,” Head of the Management and Marketing Department of the Uzbekistan Railways Fozil Sharipov said.
The length of the Chukursai railway sorting station is almost 6 kilometers and it includes 3 parks and about 50 reception, departure and sorting lines. The station receives about 2500 tons of cargo daily.
It was earlier reported that Continental Logistics Shymkent LLC has become the main Kazakh company providing customs clearance and storage services for goods coming from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Kazakhstan and even to Russia.
