TEHRAN, Iran, June 18. Iran and Turkmenistan are planning to increase trade and transit to 10 million tons per year, said a member of the Iranian parliament Ali Azari, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Reopening of Bajgiran border crossing will be a new chapter in political and economic relations between the two countries," he said.
The officials of the two countries have agreed to accelerate transit, especially via the Sarakhs border terminal.
Statistics from the first five months of 2022 show 83 percent growth in trade reaching $150 million between the two countries. Iran Customs Administration has announced that 1.4 million tons of goods valued at $300 million have been traded between Iran and Turkmenistan since the beginning of Ebrahim Raisi's administration.
The two countries signed 13 cooperation documents during the Turkmenistan Presidential visit to Tehran to expand political, economic, commercial, transportation, investment, environment, tech, energy, tourism, and research ties.
