While fuel consumption in Iran is increasing, its smuggling out of the country has hiked by a turbulence in foreign exchange currency market.
"Increase of unnecessary fuel consumption is a fact in Iran. The gasoline consumption is rising. Production in new refineries is raised. The consumption from 54 million liters in targeted subsidies plan has reached to 90 million liters," Spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's Energy Committee Assadollah Gharakhani told ILNA.
"Another undeniable fact in our country is smuggling,” he said.” We have to find a solution to these issues."
The official said a special committee was established to deal with the issues including fuel quotas, fuel cards for families or increasing gasoline prices.
"We will finalize our decision on the fuel prices after reviewing the reports," he added.
