About 98 percent of equipment and spare parts in Iran’s gas sector are supplied by domestic production at present, Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Hassan Montazer Torbati said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
The deputy minister said that so far, 14 trillion rials (about $333 million) worth of contracts have been signed with startup companies for the production of technical equipment and so on in the gas sector in Iran.
Torbati added that there are also contracts worth 3 trillion rials (about $71.4 million) between the NIGC and local companies for the production of chemicals and equipment.
"The issue of Iran's gas exports to Oman is being researched by the Iranian Oil Ministry. The signing of an agreement on the gas exchange between the two countries will be clear after discussions," he noted.
According to the director, currently, about 17 percent of subscribers in Iran use gas for free of charge. This figure is expected to rise to 30 percent.
As reported, according to the decision of the Iranian government, gas will be provided free of charge from next month (December 21, 2020) in accordance with the climate in the winter months, to the citizens that are using gas less than 200 cubic meters on 1st, 2nd and 3rd zones, less than 150 cubic meters in 4th zone, less than 100 cubic meters in 5th zone.
