ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 9. Turkmenistan has been actively enhancing its energy sector in recent years, focusing on efforts to expand and upgrade its energy infrastructure, Trend reports.
Investments in modern technologies and infrastructure allow Turkmenistan to improve energy efficiency, ensure system stability, and expand its capacity for energy exports, thereby bolstering the country's economy and its position in the global energy market.
According to the review prepared by Trend, Turkmenistan has demonstrated good results in the development of its energy sector in the first half of 2024.
Electricity supplies to Afghanistan
Turkmenistan and the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) energy company have signed a deal to supply 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours in 2024. The contract was signed during the visit of DABS CEO Muhammad Hanif Hamza to Turkmenistan, who met with the Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Annageldi Saparov, and the management of Turkmenistan's Turkmenenergo State Electric Power Corporation. The deal provides for the supply of Turkmen electricity through four lines: Andkhoy, Akina, Badgis, and Turgundi-Herat.
Purchase of bulldozers from China for the energy sector
Turkmenistan bought 30 Chinese bulldozers for its energy sector in early January. The Balkan oil and gas group 'Nebitgazçykaryş' bought the bulldozers. The gear will be used to develop oil and gas fields in the region and build and install enterprise facilities, such as gas pipelines to towns.
Joint development of deposits with ADNOC
Turkmengaz State Concern of Turkmenistan and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the development of Turkmenistan's largest gas field, Galkynysh. Publication of the total number of wells in the Lebap region
The total number of gas wells in the Lebap region, located in the east of Turkmenistan, amounted to 91 units at the beginning of January. Due to this, the average daily production of natural gas in the region was about 33 million cubic meters per day. Part of the extracted gas was exported to the Chinese market via the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline.
Discussion with Afghanistan on the implementation of the TAPI project
Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed starting practical work on the TAPI gas pipeline project. The topic was discussed in Kabul by TAPI Pipeline Company Ltd. Definitions of the volume of electricity exports to Afghanistan
Turkmenistan intends to export a total of 1,835.3 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan this year. This was announced by the Head of the Turkmen Energy Ministry’s International Electricity Projects Department in the TAP direction, Myrat Artykov, at the Turkmen-Afghan Business Forum in Ashgabat city. He noted that in order to fully meet the demand for electricity from consumers in the Afghan provinces of Herat, Farah, and Kandahar and to promote the socio-economic development of the neighboring country and its successful integration into international economic relations, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) transmission line project was launched.
Maintenance of Galkynysh field facilities by Petrofac
Petrofac Company (UK), a leading provider of services to the global energy industry, has received a contract from Turkmenistan's Turkmengaz State Concern for the maintenance of the Galkynysh field. The contract was concluded for three years, and its value amounted to more than $200 million. The contract includes the provision of personnel to monitor and support operations and maintenance, the provision of technical support and procurement services, as well as the development and implementation of management systems to support the efficient operation of central processing units 1 and 1A of the Galkynysh gas field.
Greenlight for the construction of power plant by Çalık Enerji
Turkish Çalık Enerji company receives a financial guarantee for the construction of a combined-cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,574 MW in Turkmenbashi city in the Balkan region of Turkmenistan. The German Commerzbank and the Swiss Export Credit Agency (ECA) have provided a financial guarantee of $586 million for the above construction. The building of this major energy facility in Turkmenistan will take 40 months. During this term, Commerzbank will issue contractual bonds on behalf of Çalık Enerji to the recipient, Turkmen Energy Business.
Interest in cooperation with Pakistan in energy sector
Turkmenistan sees potential for cooperation with Pakistan in the energy sector. Turkmen Ambassador to Islamabad Atajan Movlamov made this statement at a meeting with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan. Purchase of new batch of Zoomlion special equipment for energy sector
Turkmenistan has purchased a new batch of new Zoomlion bulldozers, excavators, and loaders for the Turkmengaz State Concern. The first batch from Zoomlion included 10 bulldozers, 14 excavators, and 5 mini-loaders with advanced electronics. The new special equipment is distributed between the production associations 'Türkmengazakdyryş', 'Türkmengazüpjünçilik', the 'Türkmenýöritenebitgazgurnama' association of enterprises, and the departments 'Marygazçykaryş', 'Döwletabatgazçykaryş', 'Lebapgazçykaryş'.
