By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

All Turkish cargo running in the direction of Azerbaijan, Russia and a number of other countries passes in transit through other states, Turkish political scientist, a leading representative of the Ankara-Moscow expert-analytical network Engin Ozer told Trend.

According to Ozer, cargo movement in transit is not very convenient for Turkish shipping companies.

“This creates long queues at the borders, increases transportation cost, tax and customs fees,” he said.

The expert noted that the Zangazur corridor will create a single economic and transport space between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“Besides, the opening of this route will allow Turkish companies to supply goods to a number of countries in transit through Azerbaijan. This corridor is important not only for our countries but also for Russia and Kazakhstan. The opening of the Zangazur corridor will accelerate the development of Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, Ozer said.

He stressed that in the future, Kazakh grain supplied to Turkey by rail in transit through Azerbaijan can be transported to Syria and Iraq.

“Currently, Kazakh grain is one of the cheapest and high-quality grains on the regional market. The Zangazur corridor creates a huge potential for this country, as well as for the Central Asian markets in general,” the Turkish expert added.

Ozer noted that over the next 10-15 years, the entire freight traffic of these countries through Azerbaijan will be doubled.

Transportation of road and rail cargo in Turkey to Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries can be carried out through this corridor, unloading ports and some other railways, the expert emphasized.
