ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 11. The workload and services within Turkmenistan's transportation and communication sector saw a notable increase of 17.5 percent from January through May 2024, Trend reports.
Mammetkhan Chakiyev, the Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, made this announcement at a government meeting held on June 7.
According to him, in the first five months, this figure in the field of cargo transportation by road, rail, air, sea, and river transport amounted to 5.9 percent, and in passenger transportation, it was 2.9 percent.
"During the period of January through May, the Turkmendemiryollary Agency (Turkmenistan Railways) experienced a service provision growth rate of 4.8 percent, while the Turkmenawtoulaglary Agency (Turkmen automobile service) saw a rise of 11.4 percent, and the Turkmenhowayollary Agency (Turkmenistan Airlines) surged by 53 percent," Chakiyev stated.
Furthermore, he noted that during the mentioned timeframe, the service provision growth rate for the Turkmendenizderyayollary Agency (Turkmen State Service of Maritime and River Transportation) reached 15.8 percent, while for the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency (Turkmen Communications), it was 12.2 percent.
In light of the strategic importance of enhancing the transportation and communication sector to stimulate economic growth and promote international cooperation, Turkmenistan is actively engaged in comprehensive initiatives aimed at modernizing and upgrading its infrastructure.
These efforts involve the establishment of new facilities and the modernization of existing ones, covering a wide range of areas, including highways, railways, ports, airports, and transportation hubs.
