BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. Tajikistan will supply early onions to Kazakhstan in offseason, per the agreement signed between the countries, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan.
The agreement was signed in the framework of the visit of Kazakhstan’s First Vice Minister of Trade and Integration to Tajikistan. The discussion between the sides revolved around supplying the Kazakh market with the necessary fruit and vegetable production during the upcoming off season.
Kazakh and Tajik officials agreed to continue cooperation in the agricultural and trade sectors.
Kazakhstan and Tajikistan remain important trade partners. The overall trade turnover between the two Central Asian nations amounted to $1.4 billion in 2022, compared to $1.2 billion in 2021 (16.66 percent increase). Kazakh exports to Tajikistan increased by 9.7 percent and reached $877.6 million in 2022.
Fruit and vegetable imports are seen as a feasible strategy to contain the food price growth in Kazakhstan. Recent data suggests that the food product price increase remains significantly higher than the target set by the National Bank of Kazakhstan.
