DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, May 6. The credit portfolio of financial institutions in Tajikistan reached 18.290 billion somoni ($1.677 billion) as of March 31, 2024, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, the figure increased by 3.535 billion somoni ($324.293 million), or 24 percent, compared to the same period in 2023. This surge primarily stems from an increase in credits extended to individuals, the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector, and the commercial sector.

Furthermore, non-performing loans, those overdue by more than 30 days, amounted to 2.324 billion somoni ($213.198 million), constituting 12.7 percent of the total credit portfolio as of March 31, 2024. This figure rose by 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023.

As of March 31, 2024, there were 63 credit financial institutions operating in Tajikistan, including 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-bank credit institution, 19 microcredit deposit organizations, 3 microcredit organizations, and 25 microcredit funds.
