The trade volume of public catering enterprises in Uzbekistan decreased in 1H2020 by 20.6 percent compared to the same period last year to 2.42 trillion soums ($236 million), Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee.
While the turnover of large catering enterprises decreased during the reporting period by only 5.3 percent to 407.3 billion soums ($39.7 million), the drop in sales of small businesses reached 23.1 percent.
The strongest decrease in the turnover of catering enterprises was recorded in the Samarkand, Syrdarya, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, Khorezm and Navoi regions.
The sales of large catering outlets increased in six regions. In Karakalpakstan, where the highest and most impressive growth was recorded, it increased by 53.6 times, as well as in Fergana (2.1 times), Khorezm (by 56 percent), Samarkand (by 55.3 percent), Bukhara (13.3 percent) and Kashkadarya (by 12.4 percent) regions.
At the end of March 2020, by the decision of the Special Republican Commission for the Prevention of the Spread of Coronavirus in Uzbekistan, the activity on receiving visitors from about 14,000 catering establishments of the country was suspended. At the same time, the catering establishments could deliver food.
