Majid Samadi, CEO of Iranian Railroad Company Arya Leader and the CEO of a Serbian counterpart company signed an agreement whereby Iran is to import worth $1.3 million of rail parts from the Serbian company.
The meeting was overseen by Iranian Ambassador to Belgrade Majid Fahimpour and Serbian deputy minister of trade, communication, and tourism Rasim Ljajić.
During the meeting where the contract was signed, the Iranian official expressed happiness over the deal and hoped it would be a start for businessmen from both sides to follow, IRNA news agency reported August 29.
The Serbian official for his part expressed willingness to boost trade with Iran, adding that cooperation in car making, tourism, agriculture, roads, and construction can be boosted six fold.
He hoped in near future the two countries' trade turnover reaches $100 million per year.
The two Iranian and Serbian companies have signed a number of contracts this year worth over $8 million. Some of the contracts will be operational by the end of this year.
Iranian and Serbian officials earlier studied ways to develop economic cooperation and market potentials in the run-up to the 14th Iran-Serbia Joint Economic Commission, an early August report said.
Serbia and other newly-independent states from former Yugoslavia which are under reconstruction era are suitable markets for Iranian products mainly machinery and petrochemical products.
Trade between Iran and Serbia stood at less than $3 billion. Preparations are underway to enhance level of trade ties.
