Iran has just turned into an exporter of oil products 110 years after the country owned an oil industry, according to Abbas Kazemi, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining & Distribution Company (NIORDC).
The official said that starting this year (Iranian fiscal year started March 20), Iran began to export 400,000 barrels a day of oil products, SHANA news agency reported Aug. 10.
In the course of the past one month, Iran exported 50 million liters of mazut and 14 million liters of gas oil, Kazemi pointed out.
This is while Iran used to import gas oil only two years ago.
Tapping its huge natural gas reserves, Iran has managed to replace gas for liquid fuel at industrial units, power plants, housing sector and even transportation to a great degree.
This has provided the country with an extra supply of liquid fuel available for export.
