PremiumAgriculture in Azerbaijan (January-February 2014)

2015 has been declared as the Year of Agriculture in Azerbaijan. The foundation was created for the dynamic development of agriculture as a result of agrarian reforms in Azerbaijan. The fundamental changes occurred in the agricultural sector. The new economic and property relations were formed. The regulatory framework was improved. E-agriculture is used to improve efficiency and transparency in the management.

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan in actual prices amounted to 428.6 million manat in January-February 2015 or by 3.1 percent more compared to the same period of last year.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of two months, during this period the livestock production increased by 3.1 percent, crop production - by 3.5 percent.

Plant cultivation

The agricultural enterprises, private entrepreneurs, households have started spring field work in Azerbaijan since January. The agro-technical measures are carried out and the necessary agricultural machinery is ensured.

As of March 1, 2015, the crop covered an area of ​​47,700 hectares in Azerbaijan, which is by 2.5 percent more than in the same period of last year.

Some ​​28,300 hectares of the total cultivated area accounted for the perennial plants, 11,000 hectares - potatoes, 7,300 hectares - vegetables, 1,030 hectares - cereals and legumes.

In particular, during the reporting period, the country produced 4,000 tons of greenhouse vegetables, which is 0,200 tons more than in the reporting period of last year.

The area of perennial plants increased by 6.1 percent, vegetables - by 5.2 percent compared to the same period of last year. The area of potatoes decreased by 2.1 percent, cereals and leguminous - 34.8 percent.

Cattle breeding

So, the production of meat hit 72,300 metric tons, milk - 279,400 metric tons, 257.6 million eggs in January-February 2015.

Meat production increased by 1.9 percent, milk - by 4.3 percent, eggs - by 7.1 percent in the country during this period of the year compared to January-February 2014.

The timely veterinary measures, as well as the work towards improving the productive quality of the cattle breed had a positive impact on the dynamic development of livestock.
