Israeli airstrikes on Gaza Strip kill one militant

( dpa )- One Palestinian was killed and three were wounded on Wednesday night in a series of airstrikes carried out by Israeli military aircraft on the Gaza Strip, according to medics, security sources and witnesses.

Mo'aweya Hassanein , chief of emergency and ambulance services in the Palestinian ministry of health, said on the telephone that one Palestinian was killed and two were wounded in an airstrike on the northern Gaza Strip.

Witnesses in the area said the rocket targeted a group of Hamas militants trying to launch homemade rockets from the area at southern Israel, adding that rescue teams carried one dead and two wounded to a nearby hospital.

Another Israeli airstrike targeted a car full of three militants, witnesses said, adding that the Israeli rocket fired by an Israeli aircraft missed the car, which fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

Palestinian security sources close to Hamas said that an Israeli aircraft fired rockets at a Palestinian blacksmith store in central Gaza Strip, slightly wounding a Palestinian woman and causing severe destruction to the place.

Earlier Wednesday, al- Qassam Brigades, Hamas ' armed wing, claimed responsibility for launching 26 homemade rockets and mortar shells at Israeli towns on southern Israel and Israeli communities near Gaza.

On Tuesday, Israel killed nine in southern Gaza Strip. All were Hamas members, including seven killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Hamas police base, and two shot by Israeli soldiers east of Rafah .
