The forces during an operation on Monday killed several Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan's Kunar province, some 185 km east of the capital city of Kabul, the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a press release issued here.

"International Security Assistance Force killed several insurgents during an operation in Darah-ye Pech district, Kunar province, today," the press release said, Xinhua reported.

Coalition forces observed several insurgents moving tactically and carrying heavy automatic weapons, the press release said, adding "After establishing positive identification, coalition forces engaged the enemy position, killing several insurgents."

The statement did not reveal the exact number of the insurgents killed during the operation but stressed there were no civilian casualties during the operation.

However, Taliban militants, fighting Afghan and NATO-led forces, have not made comments so far.

The mountainous Kunar and neighboring Nuristan provinces bordering Pakistan's tribal areas have been regarded as Taliban stronghold in east Afghanistan.
