A short porn film allegedly starring Marilyn Monroe found no buyer at an auction in Buenos Aires, dpa reported.
More reporters than prospective buyers gathered late Sunday as Spanish film dealer Mikel Barsa offered the 8-millimetre film, made in 1946 or 1947.
No bidder offered to pay the starting price of 500,000 dollars. A private offer of 280,000 dollars from an unnamed bidder in Denver, Colorado, was yet to be considered by the owner, Barsa said.
The film was to go up for auction again in London.
Barsa said he sold a 16-millimetre copy of the same film in Spain in 1997 for 1.2 million dollars.
It remained disputed whether the blonde in the six-and-a-half-minute film was indeed Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe (1926-62), who became a cultural icon since her premature death. The managers of Monroe's heritage in the United States have threatened to sue Barsa for fraud.
