The Georgian side is satisfied with the resolution, the first deputy chairman of the Georgian Parliament and member of the Georgian delegation to PACE Mikhail Machavariani briefed the media on April 29.

Today, discussions were held on the two documents, he said. Adopted by the PACE the resolutions 1633 and 1647 highlight the failure of Russia to fulfill its obligations. Also, documents indicate what steps will be taken by the PACE if Russia does not comply with its obligations by the next session of the organization.

"With regards to the discussions on today's resolution, they contain all components important for Georgia such as occupation of territories, creation of opportunities for the return of refugees to their lands, destruction of the Georgian settlements. We agree with this, and the Georgian delegation supported the resolution. The discussions also clearly showed that 46 Council of Europe member states supported the position of Georgia," he said.

Today, PACE discussed the resolutions 1647 and 1648 on the Georgian-Russian war. As a result, PACE adopted one of the resolutions - 1648 on the humanitarian consequences of war, prepared by Korean Yonker, MP from Holland, chairman of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population.

The resolution 1647, which reflects the political side of the issue was not adopted, and PACE postponed this issue until the October meeting.

Luc van den Brand, MP from Belgium, also made a proposal to once again discuss the issue at the autumn session of the Organization and to adopt the resolution.

In the early morning of 8 August, large-scale military operations commenced in the unrecognized South Ossetia Republic. Georgian military people entered Tsinkhvali in the early morning. Later Russian troops occupied the city and pushed the Georgian military to the territory of Georgia. In late August, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In response, Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Moscow and declared the two unrecognized republics as occupied territories.
