Second Congress of Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations' Union (ASYOU) was held in Gulustan Palace in Baku on June 2.

Opening the congress, ASYOU chairman Shahin Ismayilov informed delegates of the work done by the Union for the last period.

The Union has been actively involved in most of the youth projects in Azerbaijan, he noted.

Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said 200 youth organizations operated in Azerbaijan at the time when ASYOU was established, and the Union has fulfilled the task which it set - it has established links with all universities.

ASYOU is a structure that is interested in issues and concerns of students, which seeks to solve them, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Political Analysis and Information Provision Department head Elnur Aslanov said at the congress.

Aslanov advised young people to show more activity and initiative, and to continue to move forward.

The future potential of Azerbaijan is concentrated in the ASYOU, Aslanov said.

He noted that Azerbaijani students have to take important steps in promoting their country.

"Today's Azerbaijan is becoming a regional leader. Its every citizen should try to convey to the world the realities of Azerbaijan, in particular, to inform students in different countries about the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Azerbaijani students act as ambassadors who through information and communication technologies spread the truth about Azerbaijan in the world. Every representative of the Azerbaijani youth must know that he is a citizen of a big, strong country. Our goal is that the younger generation of Azerbaijan will be full of initiative, active and intellectually developed," Aslanov added.

At the same time he noted that the attitude of administration of some universities towards their student organizations leaves much to be desired.

"We know that, unfortunately, in some universities student organizations are not evaluated properly. In some universities, the attitude of administration to student youth organizations, their infrastructure is not on the level. We would like to publicly announce it," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Department head said.

He said the Union should act as a bridge between the student and the university - to protect the rights of every student, to deliver information about all the accomplishments, successes, problems, difficulties of the student to administration of the university.

Aslanov noted that each university should create special conditions for student organizations.

"Student organizations, taking advantage of their rights, have to become a more efficient and stronger organization," he said.

Deputy Minister of Education Gulu Novruzov in his turn said that challenges that today's youth faces, are very different from those of ten years ago.

At the end of speeches, elections of the ASYOU governing bodies were held. Shahin Ismayilov was re-elected as the Chairman of the Union. Following the vote, he left other candidates behind by 364 votes.

Ismayilov expressed gratitude for the confidence showed to him and said that "together with his team he will seek to work even more efficiently and to please students with new projects."
