June 29 July 1, 2007 Baku Hosts European Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics

June 29-July1, 2007 Baku will host the 23rd Championship of Europe in rhythmic gymnastics. Shahin Kazimzade, press secretary of the Federation informed Trend Agency, that the news was announced during the contract conclusion between Azerbaijan Federation and the Union of European Gymnastics (UEG).

The document was signed between the President of Gymnastics Federation, member of the Parliament, Mehriban Aliyeva and the President of UEG, Dimitrios Dimitropulus.

UEG is visiting Baku since yesterday. Mafred Kuht, the Director for the organization, and Hayde Bruneder, the President for the technical committee of rhythmic gymnastics of UEG are in the work group too.

Guests had their first opportunity to meet the organizational committee of European Championship. They discussed series of technical questions as well as the broadcast of the coming event. Lider TV became the main channel for broadcasting the event

The staffing question of the organizational committee was discussed. It is expected that it will consist of members of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Ministry for Youth and Sports, members of the Parliament, and the management of the Sports and Concert Hall named after Heydar Aliyev. The question of ceremony opening and close up were discussed.

UEG met and discussed the event also with Azad Ragimov, the Minister of Sports and Youth of Azerbaijan. Guest examined the hotels where the participants, referees, management of UEG and mass media will be accommodated during the European Championship.

UEG delegation is visiting the Sports and Concert Hall named after Heydar Aliyev tomorrow where the championship will be held. The premises will be examined.

Mr. Kazimzade said that the management of the Union of European Gymnastics noticed that the World Championship that was held in Baku last year was held at the highest level, and guests said that European Championship will be held even on a higher level.

Altay Gassanov, Vice-President for the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation said that he is satisfied that Baku was chosen as a host for European Championship. Altay Gassanov said: Azerbaijan was chosen, even though there were other candidates such as Ukraine, Spain, and Turkey. I hope that Baku becomes the center of the European Gymnastics

Mr. Kazimzade said that there are approximately 33countries participating at the event is 33. The championship will see junior athletes in a group performance as elder gymnasts in an individual performance.

The event will go for 3 days. The first delegation arrives on June 24.
