ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 8. The Asian Development Bank plans to sign an agreement on financing the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan highway construction project for more than $300 million, Trend reports.
This information became known during a meeting between the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Masatsugu Asakawa, who arrived in Astana to take part in the 23rd Ministerial Conference of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation.
Tokayev congratulated the guest on the 30th anniversary of fruitful cooperation between Kazakhstan and the ADB. According to him, Kazakhstan highly values the strategic nature of its interaction with the bank and its contribution to the implementation of major infrastructure projects and strengthening the national financial system.
President Tokayev reported that Kazakhstan continues its work on the liberalization of the economy, improving the investment climate, and creating conditions to unlock the country's economic potential. One of the promising areas of cooperation he mentioned is the decarbonization of the economy.
In turn, Masatsugu Asakawa emphasized that the ADB welcomes Kazakhstan's achievements in economic reforms and sustainable development. He assured that the bank is ready to continue close cooperation, including participation in large projects aimed at modernizing infrastructure, improving the social sector, and strengthening the investment climate.
From 1994 to 2024, the ADB has financed projects in Kazakhstan worth about $7 billion. In particular, the bank was involved in the construction of the international road corridor "Western Europe – Western China" and the reconstruction of the Aktobe–Kandyagash road.
