Industrial turnover index in Turkey up in January 2011

Industrial turnover index was up 33.2 percent (2005=100) in January 2011 over the same period a year earlier, Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, said on Friday, Anadolu News Agency reported.

The index, which covers the sectors of manufacturing and mining, was down 19 percent compared to December 2010, TurkStat said.

In the manufacturing sector, the year-on-year increase in January 2011 was 33 percent and in the mining sector, it was 40.7 percent.

The turnover index shows market sizes for goods and services.

Separately, TurkStat said industrial new orders index in January 2011 rose 32.5 percent (2005=100) over the same period a year earlier, while it was down by 16.8 percent over December 2010.

The highest year-on-year rise in the orders index was recorded in the manufacture of machinery and equipment with 50.6 percent, followed by the 45.7 percent increase in manufacture of basic metal industry.
