The program of preferential agricultural loans, developed by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, is aimed at expanding access to financial resources, said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports citing the Ministry.
“The preferential agro-credit program provides access to cheap resources. Since 2013, more than 36,000 concessional agricultural loans in the amount of more than two billion lari have been issued, and the state has co-financed the loan interest rate in the amount of more than 271 million lari,” Davitashvili said.
The minister noted that the results of the implemented program were analyzed and the taxes paid by these enterprises exceed the expenses incurred by the state.
In addition, special attention is paid to farmers, sharing knowledge and providing them with the necessary information.
“Until 2012, there were no regional departments of the ministry in Georgia. Today we can say that information and consulting services operate in all municipalities. As a result, over the past two years, 43,000 farmers have been consulted. The Ministry is actively working to improve and expand the service so that we have a competent agronomist and an appropriate specialist in each village,” Davitashvili said.
