Iran has made a bitumen factory operational to increase its bitumen output by 620 thousand metric tons.
The Damideh Bitumen Factory in Abadan, Khuzestan Province, belongs to Pasargad Oil Company and was unveiled by Cooperative, Labor, and Social Welfare Minister Ali Rabiei, IRNA news agency reported May 24.
The factory's construction kicked off in 2010 and was carried out with 450 billion rials (close to $16 million) investment.
Pasargad holds the biggest bitumen production complex in the Middle East.
Iran's future bitumen-related project is to increase its bitumen storage capacity from 15 thousand to 35 thousand metric tons by launching four storage facilitates each with the capacity of five thousand metric tons.
The country also has plans for dredging a loading dock at Imam Khomeini Port as well as improving bitumen production and packaging facilities and transit infrastructure.
Iran is the 7th largest producer and 4th largest exporter of the product.
