Kazakh Courts to open archives to journalists

Courts in Kazakhstan will open their archives to journalists, Chair of the Union of Judges Vladimir Borisov told Kaztag news agency.

Access to the archives will be given in terms of the journalistic contest of writing a legal sketch, Borisov said. This is the first ever contest held in Kazakhstan so far..

The contest is organized by Kazakh Union of Judges, Kazakh Union of Journalists and the International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech "Adil Soz".

Topics of the journalistic works include corruption and organized crime, murder and domestic crime, drug addiction, as well as civil disputes - shared construction, land relations etc.

To get the access to court archive journalists should submit an application on the certain topic to "Adil Soz". Articles must be published by June 10. Winners will be rewarded on June 27, the day of Kazakh journalism.

First place winner will get 150,000 tenge (around $1,000), the second place - 100,000 tenge (around $700) and the third place - 50,000 tenge ($350).
