BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. A workshop on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) was held with the participation of employees of Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (KMG) National Company JSC and Chevron experts in Astana from October 18 to October 20, Trend reports on October 21 via KMG.
The workshop was organized as part of the Memorandum of Understanding to explore potential carbon reduction projects in Kazakhstan, signed in June 2022 between KMG and Chevron.
At the workshop, Chevron experts shared their experience in implementing projects in the field of carbon capture and storage, as well as talked about the technologies used.
KMG presented the results of a preliminary analysis of potential sites for the implementation of pilot projects in the field of CCUS.
“Given that the company is exploring the possibility of implementing carbon capture and storage projects as part of the energy transition, Chevron’s experience in this area is undoubtedly of significant interest to KMG at this stage of work,” Deputy Chairman of the KMG Management Board for Strategy, Investments and Development business Dastan Abdulgafarov said.
KMG was represented at the seminar by employees of the corporate center, as well as subsidiaries and affiliates (production and oil refining unit).
Besides, KMG and Chevron discussed potential opportunities for implementing joint projects in the field of carbon capture and storage.
The cooperation between KazMunayGas and Chevron is part of the companies' efforts to support Kazakhstan's goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
