Kazakhstan sees growth in goods traffic to China by rail

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 5. The volume of cargo transportation by rail between Kazakhstan and China has exceeded 28 million tons in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the data of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company), the volume of cargo transportation increased by 22 percent compared to 2022.

At the same time, Kazakhstan exported 12.6 million tons of goods to China by rail, which is 35 percent more than in 2022.

Thus, grain exports climbed twofold, to 2.2 million tons; flour and powder products increased threefold, to 600,000 tons; vegetable oil increased 56 percent, to 180,000 tons; nonferrous metals increased 41 percent, to 500,000 tons; and coke increased fourfold.

Meanwhile, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national corporation) was 236 million tons from January to November 2023, 1.8 percent higher than the same period last year.

Over 152 million tons were transported by rail across the country. Exports climbed by 7.8 percent, reaching 84 million tons.

Kazakhstan's trade turnover with China totaled $27.3 billion from January to November 2023. When compared to the same period in 2022, trade turnover climbed by 23.8 percent ($22.05 billion).

At the same time, in terms of trade turnover, exports to China totaled $13.3 billion, which is 10 percent more than from January to November 2022 ($12.09 billion).

Furthermore, imports from China surged by 40 percent between January and November 2023, reaching $14 billion. Imports totaled $9.96 billion during the first 11 months of 2022.
