ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 29. The volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan amounted to 1.3 million tons in 2023, Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov.
Compared to 2022, the volume of cargo transportation increased by 20 percent.
The parties highly appreciated the interaction in the transit and transport sectors. A successful example of Kazakh-Turkmen cooperation is the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, whose potential is increasing every year thanks to the measures taken.
Nurtleu noted that in recent years, relations between the countries have been brought to a qualitatively new level.
"In the first quarter of this year, the volume of trade between the two countries exceeded $100 million. Positive trends inspire great confidence in the fulfillment of the task of the heads of state to increase our mutual trade to $1 billion in the near future," he said.
The ministers also noted the significant potential for cooperation in the energy sector, including the prospects for implementing joint projects. Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to promote the development of fruitful interaction in this area.
To note, over the past five years, the volume of mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan has increased almost four times. In 2023, this figure showed an increase of 28 percent and reached $563 million.
