ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 14. Kazakhstan will put into operation eight chemical industry enterprises with a project cost of 12.9 billion tenge (about $26.9 million) by the end of 2024, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Industry and Construction.
Among the projects planned for launch are the production of liquid nitrogen, sodium metabisulfite, and chemical reagents. About 70 percent of the products planned for production will be directed toward the country’s internal needs.
This year, two chemical enterprises have already been launched in Kazakhstan - for the production of ammonium sulfate in the Mangystau region and for the production of household chemicals and personal care products in Almaty. Thus, 4.1 billion tenge (about $8.5 million) were invested in projects, and 36 jobs were created.
In addition to this, another 22 projects worth 790 billion tenge (about $1.65 billion) are at the implementation stage: the production of green hydrogen, uranium oxide, lithium carbonate, polyvinyl chloride, ammonium paratungstate, and other chemical products. Over 45 percent of the products of new enterprises are planned to be exported to countries near and far away.
In the future, 62 projects worth 13.4 trillion tenge (about $27.9 billion) are being developed with the creation of more than 26,000 jobs. Together with local and foreign investors, it is planned to launch the production of polyethylene, potassium fertilizers, ammonium nitrate, sodium cyanide, and other chemical industry products.
In total, the chemical industry portfolio includes 94 projects worth more than 14.2 trillion tenge (about $29.6 billion).
Furthermore, Kazakhstan’s industrial production totaled 46.4 trillion tenge (approximately $102.5 billion) from January to December 2023, reflecting a 4.3 percent increase compared to 2022.
Production in the mining and quarrying sector reached 21.7 trillion tenge (around $47.9 billion), up by 4.6 percent from 2022. This sector accounted for 46.9 percent of total industrial production.
The manufacturing sector saw a 4.1 percent increase, reaching 21.6 trillion tenge (about $47.7 billion), covering 46.6 percent of total industrial output.
