BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 19. Kyrgyzstan will need to import 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2023, the Minister of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev, said, Trend reports.
He explained that Kyrgyzstan's annual electricity demand is 17.4 billion kilowatt-hours. Of these, 14.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be produced in the country in 2023.
"We estimate that 12.3 billion kilowatt-hours will be generated at hydroelectric power plants and an additional 1.9 billion at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant," the minister said.
Overall, the energy enterprises in Kyrgyzstan produced 13.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, which is 8.3 percent less than in 2021. Approximately 86 percent of this electricity was generated by hydroelectric power stations.
A total of 16.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was consumed in Kyrgyzstan in 2022, which is 0.8 percent less than in 2021.
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan exported 550 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2022, which is 0.7 percent more than in 2021.
