BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 3. The total deposit base of Kyrgyzstan's banking sector reached 668.6 billion soms (around $7.6 billion) by the end of March 2025,
Data obtained by Trend from the National Bank (NBK) shows that the figure rose by 12.9 percent from the start of the year.
The breakdown is as follows:
Deposits from legal entities amounted to 291.7 billion soms ($3.3 billion), an increase of 18.5 percent compared to the start of the year.
Deposits from individuals stood at 218.3 billion soms ($2.4 billion), rising by 5.1 percent.
Deposits from government bodies totaled 65.7 billion soms ($751.2 million), up by 27.0 percent.
Deposits from non-residents reached 80.0 billion soms ($914 million), a 6.1 percent increase.
Deposits from other financial and credit institutions were 13 billion soms ($ 148.6 million), growing by 13.6 percent.
According to the bank, the dollarization of the banking sector's loan portfolio stood at 19.1 percent, decreasing by 0.9 percentage points since the start of 2025. Meanwhile, the dollarization of the deposit base fell to 37.4 percent, down by 5.5 percentage points compared to early 2025.
As many as 21 commercial banks with 305 branches were operating in the country as of March 31, 2025. Five of these banks provided services following the principles of Islamic banking and financing in both local and foreign currencies.
