TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 6. Uzbekistan’s Ugam-1 hydropower station will save about 4 million cubic meters of gas annually, Trend reports.

According to the Uzbek president’s office, the capacity of the Ugam-1 small hydropower plant is 1.48 megawatts, which allows it to produce 11.8 million kWh of environmentally clean electricity annually. Modern, efficient hydraulic units and an automated control system equip the plant. It is noteworthy that domestic materials and equipment were fully utilized during construction.

The implementation of this project will ensure an uninterrupted power supply to 5,000 households, as well as tourist and recreational facilities in the Chorbog, Humson, and Ugam mahallas.

Currently, two small HPPs on the Ugam River generate income of 200 billion soums ($15.5 million) annually. The reuse of water flow allows for the expansion of these stations to ten.

This will solve not only the issues of energy supply but also improve the infrastructure of the region. New enterprises will appear in the spheres of entrepreneurship and agriculture.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's natural gas production fell to 37 bcm on an annualized basis from January through October of this year. This figure is 5.1 percent less compared to the same period in 2023 (38.9 bcm in January–October 2023).
