BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. The production of copper concentrate at the Sungun Copper Complex in East Azerbaijan Province, located in northwestern Iran, increased by 4 percent during eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 2024) compared to the same period last year, the director of Iran's Sungun Copper Complex, Mohammad Jafar Ozmaie, told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, Sungun Copper Complex produced 227,256 copper concentrates during eight months. Out of this concentrate, 52,409 tons of crude copper can be produced.
The official noted that the complex produced 2,215 tons of molybdenum concentrate during the eight months. This is 9 percent more than in the same period last year.
Ozmaei added that the complex's production is expected to increase further in the coming months.
The Sungun Copper Complex is located at the Sungun Copper Mine in Iran. This mine is considered one of the largest mines in Iran and the Middle East. It is reported that the mine has reserves of more than 5 billion tons.
To note, Iran's national copper industry company claims that the country has 19 billion tons of copper reserves. Sarcheshmeh and Sungun are considered the main copper mines in Iran.
