Unidentified gunmen killed one person and wounded a journalist on Thursday in Khost province, east of Afghanistan, a local official said, Xinhua reported.
"The unknown armed men sprayed bullets on a car in Sabari district at 7:10 a.m. local time (GMT0340), as a result, one person was killed on the spot and a local journalist Sarhadi Sadakht was injured," district chief of Sabari Daulat Khan Qayumi told Xinhua.
Qayumi added that the one being killed is the cousin of Sadakht who might be the target.
Sadakht, according to the official, has been working as a reporter for local radio Walas Ghag or Voice of People in Khost province.
The official moreover described it a politically motivated incident and blamed the enemies of peace a term used against Taliban insurgent.
Another journalist Jawed Ahmad was shot dead by unknown assailants in Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan last month.
