Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 February / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi / Azerbaijan's Open Society Party will participate in the presidential elections only with its own candidate.

"We are not going to support any other candidate," Yagub Abbasov, the Deputy Chair of the party said to Trend . The Open Society Party will nominate its leader Rasul Guliyev.

Before the presidential elections of 2003, Guliyev was registered as a candidate. However, shortly before the elections, he withdrew his candidature in favour of the head of the Musavat party Isa Gambar.

"Guliyev is not going to withdraw his candidacy in favour of any other opposition candidate. We neither support any other party, nor any other candidate," Abbasov said.

According to the Deputy Chair, the members of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP), with whom he used to be the co-member, are neither opponents nor supporters of Guliyev. "We will not support the ADP candidate. The elections will show whether the ADP is an opposition party or not," he said.

In April 2007, the right-wing opposition Open Society Party was established. The head of the party Rasul Guliyev, the ex-speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, emigrated in 1995. He was the chair of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party till February 2007. Guliyev's supporters left DPA and founded the Open Society Party.
