The Union, which unites a number of Azerbaijani opposition parties, sent a warning letter to the Executive Power of Baku with the aim of the demonstration.
"Our main demand in the demonstration, which we plan to hold in front of the Foreign Ministry on September 24 at 12:00 pm, is to abandon the Madrid principles proposed by the co-chairmen of OSCE Minsk Group on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," Ahmed Oruj, chairman of the Azadlyg Party, represented in the Union for Democracy, told Trend .
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Oruj said that if the picket is held will also be made demands to take serious steps to restore the authority of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh. "With this action, we also intend to support the position of the Government of Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict", - he said.
The Union for Democracy was established by opposition parties the Classic People's Front, Azadliq and the National Democracy after parliamentary elections in 2005. The Great Azerbaijani Party and the National Party joined the Union in September and November 2008 respectively. The union is an agency of cooperation and consultation.
