ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 16. Kazakhstan discussed carbon neutrality goals and environmental cooperation with representatives of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), Trend reports.

The Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mansur Oshurbayev, met with OECD representatives Peline Atamer and Matthew Griffiths. The meeting also involved representatives from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection of Germany on Central Asia issues, Jürgen Keinhorst and Yvonne Lindenlaub, as well as the Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, they discussed Kazakhstan's commitment to fulfilling the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as part of the Roadmap for the Strategy to Achieve Carbon Neutrality in Kazakhstan by 2060.

The vice minister also expressed interest in carbon offset and reduction schemes for international aviation. In this regard, he appealed to the OECD for support in conducting an analysis to assess the potential risks and benefits related to this scheme and the use of CORSIA certificates.

In turn, the OECD representatives confirmed their readiness to collaborate and provide assistance on issues related to environmental safety and environmental protection.

The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) is a carbon offset and reduction scheme aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from international flights and mitigating the aviation industry's impact on climate change.

To note, Kazakhstan has been cooperating with the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) since 2008 as part of the Eurasian Competitiveness Program, which includes 13 countries from Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Eastern Europe. In June 2017, Kazakhstan officially became an "associated member" of the OECD Investment Committee.
