ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 22. Kazakhstan plans a major expansion of its mining and metallurgical capacity by 2030, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction Olzhas Saparbekov announced during a government meeting, Trend reports.
Copper ore production is expected to double and reach 300 million tons with the commissioning of new deposits in Aidarly, Koksay, and Benkala. Meanwhile, the volume of iron ore production is projected to rise by 40 percent, reaching 52 million tons. This increase will be driven by the expansion of domestic processing capacity and the launch of new hot briquetted iron production projects.
According to the government, these developments aim to boost industrial output, enhance self-sufficiency in raw materials, and improve the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s steel and non-ferrous metals sector. The expansion is also expected to support downstream manufacturing and strengthen the country’s role in regional and global value chains.
