BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. The practical steps to establish the Teskei Geopark as part of the 2023–2027 Action Plan for the development of mountainous regions were discussed in Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul region.

This was announced by the press service of the Kyrgyz President, following the meeting at the Office of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Issyk-Kul Region, which was led by Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan for the Mountain Agenda.

''The meeting was attended by the mayor of Balykchy, heads of the Jeti-Oguz and Ton district administrations, representatives of the initiative group, relevant government agencies and local authorities,'' the press service notes.

Kemelova highlighted the recent adoption of the law on geoparks and their importance for the sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan’s mountainous regions.

Participants reviewed a presentation by the initiative group and discussed further steps and practical aspects of establishing the Teskei Geopark.

They also emphasized the importance of close cooperation between government bodies and local communities in ensuring the sustainable development of mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan is seeking to strengthen the sustainable use of its mountain areas by developing geoparks that combine the protection of geological and natural heritage with tourism and local economic development.

The country’s mountainous regions account for a significant part of its territory and have considerable potential for ecotourism and other nature-based activities. The development of geoparks is expected to support the preservation of natural heritage while creating additional opportunities for local communities and contributing to the sustainable development of mountain areas.
