The U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID) will assist the Azerbaijan State Securities Committee
(SSC) to create a securities market development model, Chairman of the SSC Rufat
Aslanly said at a meeting with the USAID mission - Bill Boltovich, an expert
for capital markets, and John Carkan, trade and investment project manager.
According to Aslanly, the USAID mission will make drastic changes in the
securities market in Azerbaijan. They will be made in three phases. The current
regulatory framework will be analyzed, market infrastructure will be assessed,
the development goals will be defined on the basis of the recommendations and opinions
of USAID experts, and the regulatory mechanisms will be improved.
A securities market development model will be created as a result of the
assessment mission's activities. The opportunities for cooperation between USAID
and the SCS will be expanded.
The parties touched upon the agenda of the meeting to be held in London in April 2009.
