BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. The STAR oil refinery, operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, experienced a decline in naphtha production in May 2024, Trend reports via Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
The refinery produced 118,392 tons of naphtha, down from 135,167 tons in the same period in 2023, marking a 12.4 percent decrease.
This decrease in naphtha production aligns with a reduction in crude oil supplies to the refinery. In May 2024, the STAR refinery received 973,110 tons of crude oil, a 4.5 percent drop compared to the 1.018 million tons supplied during the same period in 2023.
The STAR refinery, which commenced operations in October 2018, was built with an investment of $6.3 billion, with approximately $3.3 billion financed through loans. The refinery has an annual refining capacity of about 10 million tons and can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
