The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) transports natural gas from Azerbaijan's vast Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea directly to Europe. Stretching 878 km, TAP connects to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, traverses Greece and Albania, crosses the Adriatic Sea, and makes landfall in southern Italy.

TAP is essential for securing Southeastern Europe’s energy supply by connecting with both current and future interconnectors. A key link is the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), which began commercial operations in October 2022, delivering Caspian gas to Bulgaria and enhancing regional energy security. TAP’s connections through Greece and Albania, along with its Italian entry point, open up extensive possibilities for expanding the flow of Azerbaijani gas into larger European markets.
