The United States considers Azerbaijan's participation in the scientific programs implemented in the U.S. as reasonable, the U.S. special envoy on science Alice Gast said during a meeting at the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) on Wednesday, ANAS said.
Gast said that there is great potential for the development of Azerbaijan's science. The U.S. attaches great importance to scientific and technological development, and the activities taken in this direction is of great importance in terms of defining future prospects.
Touching upon the relations between research institutes and universities, Gast cited the U.S. experience as an example, where scientists and researchers cooperate closely with each other for the innovative development.
Gast's visit to Azerbaijan, which started on March 8 and will last until March 11, is carried out under the President Barack Obama's initiative to strengthen relations in the spheres of science and education.
The science envoy's program is a key element of the U.S. administration's obligations on global interaction in the sphere of science and technology.
During the visit, Gast will hold meetings with ministers, other senior officials in the government, representatives of the scientific sphere, education, non-commercial and business communities.
The meetings will determine the sphere of cooperation in the fields of energy, information technology, as well as partnership in education.
