ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 28. The volume of oil refining in Kazakhstan amounted to 5.9 million tons from January through April 2024, said Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliev during a government meeting, Trend reports.

"Based on the results of 4 months of this year, the volume of oil refining amounted to 5.9 million tons, or 5.4 percent more than in the same period last year (5.6 million tons). Production of petroleum products amounted to 4.28 million tons, or 94 percent compared to the same period last year (4.55 million tons)," he said.

According to the minister, Kazakhstan has plans to increase the production of petroleum products by expanding.

"It is planned to expand the Aktau bitumen plant from 1 to 1.5 million tons (2025), the Shymkent oil refinery from 6 to 12 million tons (2030), the Atyrau oil refinery from 5.5 to 6.7 million tons (2027), and the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant from 5.5 to 8 million tons (2030)," Satkaliev said.

As he noted, the implementation of these projects will make it possible to 100 percent meet the growing demand of the domestic market for fuels and lubricants, as well as export petroleum products to neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan produced 90 million tons of oil in 2023, which is 6.9 percent higher than in 2022.

Oil exports also increased and amounted to 70.5 million tons, which is 9.6 percent more than the previous year.

Moreover, Kazakhstan plans to increase oil production in 2024 to 90.3 million tons.
