Iran reveals volume of guaranteed wheat purchases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The guaranteed wheat purchased from farmers in Iran from April 10 through May 26 amounted to 2.29 million tons, an official of Iran's State Trading Company Shahram Jabari Zadegan said, Trend reports.

According to him, the value of wheat in the mentioned volume amounted to 400 trillion rials (about $952 billion).

He noted that during the mentioned period, guaranteed wheat was purchased from farmers in 11 provinces of Iran. 63 percent of wheat was purchased in Khuzestan, 27 percent in 3 provinces (Ilam, Parsian, and Kerman), and the remaining 10 percent in 7 other provinces.

Additionally, it is planned to harvest wheat from 6 million ha in Iran this year. About 2 million ha of this land are common, and 4 million ha are agricultural lands.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
